Stacy Jackson is a proud daughter of Detroit and a dedicated woman of Southfield. She is compassionate, fair, and deeply rooted in serving Southfield communities. She listens to Southfield communities and understands the voices of all residents have value and deserve to be heard. As a candidate for Southfield City Council, Stacy will amplify the voices of Southfield residents, champion homeowners' and renters' rights, and hold leadership accountable. As the President of Beechwood Acres Homeowners’ Association for eight years, Stacy has a proven track record of uniting communities by actively engaging, advocating, and raising the concerns of Southfield residents. She takes direct action by showing up, standing up, and speaking up in support of Southfield communities, residents and families.
Driven by community, Stacy galvanized Southfield communities to stop eminent domain threats, in 2023. Through her leadership, the redevelopment plans at Beech Wood Park to develop an amphitheater, bandshell and a splash pad in Southfield homeowners backyards was revisited. The redevelopment plans would have destroyed the quiet enjoyment of the community and compromised the neighborhood's safety with excessive traffic. Stacy helped put the brakes on the project influencing city officials to start new plans that aligned with the residents voices, and the communities natural environment.
Fueled by her commitment to community, Stacy brought public awareness to unfair code enforcement of the city's septic/sewer ordinance, Ordinance 1571--that had not fairly enforced since 1998. In 2017, over 1500 Southfield homeowners, seniors and veterans received letters with threats to obtain a private septic inspection or be forced to connect to the city's sewer line. Homeowners' with failed inspections, those that couldn't comply or qualify for the city's loan or afford the exorbitant cost to connect to the city's sewer line would have their homes deemed unlivable and uninhabitable.
Stacy helped to steer the tough conversations leading to a mass townhall. Together, with Southfield communities, she helped to turn the crisis in a new direction. Her commitment to the residents led to the city's ordinance being amended to provide homeowners with the option to repair, replace or connect to the city's sewer. She continued to push on behalf of communities to get a decrease in the city sewer tap/connection fee by 33% and refund Southfield residents the difference. Steeped in compassion for community, Stacy continues to stand in solidarity with Southfield homeowners in other areas experiencing basement sewer backups due to infrastructure issues, in 2023.
Her advocacy extends beyond amplifying the voices of Southfield communities: whether ensuring fair code enforcement, defending homeowners' and renters' rights, Stacy champions fairness, unity, building positive relationships and community involvement. Stacy is revered as a person of integrity, diplomacy and civility. She collaborates with countless organizations, End Gun Violence of Michigan, We The People of Michigan, Silence The Violence, AllRASE, inter-faith organizations, and other grassroot organizations to lead initiatives to pass safer gun laws, support education, renters' rights and stand for social justice.
A public speaker by nature and profession, Stacy delights in warm and relaxed conversations with family, friends and community.
Stacy holds a bachelor's degree in communications, a master's degree in instructional technology both from Wayne State University. She has 30 years of leadership experience in communication, outreach education and is regularly often sought to lead and foster positive relationships for local and state initiatives.
